Programmes
Our Urban Wildlife Rescue Programme is an ongoing endeavour to retrieve injured, sick and orphaned indigenous wild animals from distress with a view to return them to their roles, free. These wild individuals, their behaviour and the risks they face vary drastically from rural populations. Wild Serve's personnel are trained as Urban specialists and have attained unique skill and experience sets with permits to rescue almost 700 species. More than 19 000 cases are admitted to several Rehabilitation Centres throughout Gauteng every year; Wild Serve performs a senior role as first responder to start each process.
Restore
We assist concerned citizens to reduce the artificial risks to wildlife within the local environment and together we help them find Sanctuary.
Wildlife can adapt to a variety of risks in the urban space. Unfortunately they cannot always do so within one generation without some help. By helping to give them a second chance we can help them both learn and pass on this knowledge to their social groups and young.

Rescue
We employ advanced methods and equipment to rescue animals in distress.
Think of Wild Serve's personnel as the Firefighter-Paramedics for our indigenous wildlife where Wildlife Rehabilitators are the Nurses and Vets, the Doctors. Generally, if we are not your first call - we will be your last through referrals. Make the direct call, early!

Relocate
It is crucial that we encourage the survival of animal populations within city ecosystems but as important that we can identify when threats will be sustained or unavoidable.
All animals have a natural range as well as a required habitat. Furthermore they differ not only from other species but also within groups of their own species. It is important that we keep these groups together, within areas they historically occur, and playing the same roles in the local ecosystem. When we have no choice but to relocate animals we carefully consider the needs of the species and also the broader ecosystems of the source and destination locations.
3 Wildlife Centres provide care for up to 280 animals at a time from over 360 different species of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians!
Special Projects
WiSe selects species enduring unique man-made threats where these have been identified and researched by local natural scientists. We then ply our experience acquired in the field to develop practical solutions to complement the findings of the scientists and pass these back for evaluation. A project is then developed in conjunction with our supportive divisions, peer conservation organisations and corporate sponsors while we facilitate trained public volunteers wherever possible. These projects are facilitated at our dedicated Wildlife Special Projects Centre (WiSProC) in North Riding, Johannesburg. All projects work on an annual cycle. The Centre is intended to be the most volunteer-centric facility of it's kind in Gauteng.
Rock Hyrax Population Management
Rock Hyrax have lived, specifically, on Gauteng Ridges for 33.9 million years. They now find themselves in conflict with humans developing the ridges into residential estates. We pioneer first-of-its-kind systems to limit interaction with humans and also humanely control population numbers.
