What is a pledge?
A pledge is a deliberate and solemn commitment to act, give, or refrain from acting in a particular way. It represents a conscious promise - often made publicly or in good faith - to uphold a value, support a cause, contribute resources (such as time, money, or effort), or abstain from certain behaviors. A pledge reflects both intent and moral responsibility, binding the pledger to follow through in principle and practice.

A pledge can also serve as a means to affirm that a person recognizes certain values, views and interests in another, like a friend or family member.
